FAQ -Frequently Asked Questions about Musical Discovery
Why is the right edge and bottom of every screen cut off on my installation of Musical Discovery? Musical Discovery is optimised for a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Your computer must be set to a lower resolution. To fix this, right-click your Windows Desktop, and select properties, or go to Display from the Control Panel. Click the settings tab. Drag the screen resolution slider to the right, using the mouse, till it reads 1024 x 768. Then click OK.
Why can't I hear any music after loading a tune and hitting the play button? If your MIDI sound card is set up correctly, you should hear a short ditty on the violin, every time you start Musical Discovery. Possible causes for silence include:-

1.    You have not configured your MIDI OUT device yet. Go to the menu -> Midi Features –> Setup Midi Devices. Click the down arrow in the New Settings drop-down box, and select a suitable Midi device. Then click OK - Save.  Do NOT choose a MIDI OUT port, as this routes your MIDI output to a physical MIDI socket at the back of your PC  (if you have one), for connection to an external MIDI instrument such as a MIDI keyboard or synthesizer.

2.    Your amplifier or mini speakers are not switched on, or not properly connected. Please check all your cable connections.
How can I load my own music into Musical Discovery? If you already have a collection of MIDI files and you wish to add these tunes to the Musical Discovery database, do the following for each MIDI file:-

Use the menu -> File -> Import a MIDI file,  click the green button - 'Open a MIDI file', then  navigate through your hard disk directories to point to your MIDI file, and double-click on it. Then click the blue button 'Import as Musical Discovery Tune'.  Then select from the menu -> Edit/View -> Tune Catalogue Information, and fill in all the data about composer, category, instrument, period/style, and so on.
