Musical Discovery Demo Version          

Installation Instructions for demo version downloaded from the internet.

  1. Download the DemoDiscovery.zip file from the web page at www.gomersall.net.au/MusicalDiscovery, into a directory of your choice on your hard disk.
  2. Use My Computer to look at the contents of this downloaded directory, and double-click on the file DemoDiscovery.zip in order to extract all the files.
  3. Double-Click on setup.exe.  This will start stage 1 installation of Musical Discovery, which has a blue wash background colour.
  4. Click OK at the welcome screen.
  5. Click the button to install onto the default directory - C:\Program Files\Demo Musical Discovery.
  6. Accept all the defaults by clicking OK or Continue, as applicable.
  7. If you receive an error message about registering C:Windows\System\MSADOX.DLL, click the Ignore button.
  8. After the set-up program finishes, the My Computer list of your download directory will re-appear.
  9. Double-Click MDDemoInstaller.exe.   This will start stage 2, to install data files. This has a reddish wash as its background colour.
  10. When this has finished, a blue message at the foot of the screen instructs you to click FINISH.
  11. To start the Demo Musical Discovery program, use the Windows start button.  Start – Programs – Demo Musical Discovery.

 

Tips on using Musical Discovery

a.       Press the F1 function key to get context-sensitive help on most screens.

b.      If a note sticks, go to the menu,  Midi Features – Midi Reset. If this does not stop stuck notes, you may need to stop and restart Musical Discovery. If you have an external Sound Module, you may need to switch it off then on again.

c.       To exit most screens, click the pink Back button at top left. Otherwise, use the standard Windows X at top right of the screen, just below the X close button for the whole Musical Discovery program.

d.      To change the sound card in use, if you have more than one, go to the menu Midi Features – Setup Midi, and select a different Midi device for output and for input if desired.

e.       You can read all the help screens by browsing the help contents in the left panel of any help screen. This is in alphabetical order.

f.        You can print out extra copies of  these notes from the SetupInstructions.doc file, which is in Microsoft Word format on the CD.

System Requirements

·        A standard PC with a minimum of Pentium II processor and 128 MB of RAM.

·        Display resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels or better.

·        A CD ROM drive.

·        Microsoft Windows 98 or a later version of Windows, such as Windows XP.

·        A sound card or external sound module that supports MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), using version GM (General Midi) or later versions such as GS or GM2.  This includes most generic sound cards on new computers, as well as the Creative Sound-Blaster range, and all specialist Midi cards such as Roland or Yamaha etc.

·        Speakers connected to the audio output of your sound card.

·        (optional)  A printer.
